Q: Mike, tell us about your career at Curtiss-Wright and your plans for the Nu-Torque product line.
Mike Cinque: I’ve had the opportunity to grow within Curtiss-Wright over the years, working across quality, program management, and site leadership roles. That experience has given me a comprehensive understanding of both the technical and customer-facing sides of the business. As for the Nu-Torque product line, our focus is on growth, enhancing performance, expanding capabilities, and ensuring the products meet evolving industry demands. We’re also investing in strengthening partnerships, like the one we have with JA Moody, to ensure customers receive end-to-end support.
Q: JA Moody has had a long-standing relationship with Curtiss-Wright Target Rock. How would you describe that partnership?
Lisa Smith: It’s truly been a decades-long relationship built on trust, consistency, and technical excellence. Our collaboration with Curtiss-Wright Target Rock has evolved over time, but the core has always remained the same: delivering reliable, high-performance solutions for the Navy. We’ve worked side by side to support customers with the Nu-Torque product line, ensuring not only availability but also expert repair and lifecycle support.
Q: Mike, can you share the history of the Nu-Torque products and what’s next on the horizon?
Mike Cinque: The Nu-Torque line has a long legacy rooted in precision engineering and reliability. It was developed to meet the needs of critical applications where performance and durability are essential. Over the years, the product line has evolved through innovation and customer feedback, maintaining its reputation as a trusted solution in the field. Looking ahead, we’re focused on advancing materials, improving efficiency, and integrating new technologies that will further enhance performance and lifecycle value.
Q: Mike, from your perspective, what makes JA Moody a strong partner in supporting the Nu-Torque line?
Mike Cinque: JA Moody brings a deep level of technical expertise and responsiveness that’s hard to match. The Nu-Torque products are engineered for precision and durability, and having a partner that understands both the design intent and the operational realities is invaluable. Their ability to both sell and repair these products ensures continuity for end users. That kind of full-service capability strengthens confidence across the board.
Q: Kevin, Moody Marine Service plays a key role in repairs and field support. How does that complement JA Moody’s offerings?
Kevin Thibault: Our role is to make sure that once these Nu-Torque units are in the field, they continue to perform at the highest level. We work to provide inspection, maintenance, and repair services that meet OEM standards. Because of our long relationship with Curtiss-Wright Target Rock, we understand the nuances of the equipment. That allows us to minimize downtime and extend product life for customers. We carry OEM parts and can assist not only with the new products but also for any products in service that need overhaul/repair.
Q: Lisa, how important is the Nu-Torque product line to JA Moody’s portfolio?
Lisa Smith: The Nu-Torque line represents reliability and precision engineering, which aligns perfectly with our commitment to quality. Being able to both distribute and service these products gives us a unique position in the market. Customers know they can come to us not just for the product, but for long-term support. Over the past few decades, we have passed dozens of qualifications for these assemblies with our valves.
Q: Mike, what differentiates the Nu-Torque product line in today’s market?
Mike Cinque: It’s the combination of engineering integrity and proven performance. These products are designed for demanding applications where failure is not an option. Over the years, we’ve continued to refine and improve the line, but what really sets it apart is the ecosystem of support—including partners like JA Moody and Moody Marine Service—who ensure that performance is maintained throughout the product lifecycle.
Q: Kevin, can you speak to how the long-term relationship enhances service delivery?
Kevin Thibault: Absolutely. When you’ve worked together for decades, communication becomes seamless. We’re not just reacting to issues; we’re anticipating them. That familiarity with the equipment and the people behind it allows us to provide faster, more accurate service. It also means we can offer insights that help customers avoid problems before they happen.

Compact, Durable Actuators for High Shock and Vibration
The Curtiss-Wright Corporation Nu-Torque MS05 Series actuators are a reduced-size unit designed to meet the requirements of the MIL-Spec DOD-V24657 (SH) and the marine environment.
Cast silicon bronze housings, bronze and steel gears, shafts, and hardware resist marine corrosion and are also the ideal choice for applications requiring low magnetic components.
Motors are built to IEEE45, MIL-M-17059, or MIL-M-17060 to provide extended life under the most severe shipboard conditions. The MS05 Series actuators are more compact and durable, reducing the stress on smaller valves where Navy High Shock and Vibration qualification is required.
The MS05 Series actuator can be supplied for Quarter-Turn and Multi-Turn applications.
Features:
- Up to 6 position limit devices, individually adjustable
- OPEN and CLOSE torque limit devices
- Differential drive, low-effort handwheel
- Mechanical position indicator located near the handwheel and on top
- Mechanical stops for quarter-turn applications, adjustable from 85 to 95 degrees
- Integral reversing controller with valve logic
- Thermal sensors and a monitor module
JA Moody delivers innovative, American-made flow control solutions trusted across the U.S. Navy for their reliability, performance, and long-term lifecycle value.

San Diego Ship Repair Association Monthly Luncheon
New General Manager, Ryan Fowler, attended the Port of San Diego Ship Repair Association’s monthly luncheon, where CAPT Brian Karosich, Commanding Officer of Southwest Regional Maintenance Center (SWRMC), provided key updates on maintenance demand, contracting strategy, and execution priorities.
SWRMC is currently managing an estimated $2B backlog of deferred maintenance, with more than 140 CMAVs projected in FY26, a brief dip in FY27, and growth expected in FY28. 150-day CNO availabilities are now the standard, supported by targeted incentives of $15M each for USS AMERICA, USS SOMERSET, and USS BOXER.
Contracting strategies are shifting from Lowest Technically Acceptable (LTA) toward best value awards, with progressive payments reinstated at 90% for large businesses and 95% for small businesses.
Additional initiatives include:
- Organizational realignment, separating depot and intermediate maintenance between RMC and IMA/SIMA
- Multi-ship sustainment partnerships to reduce growth work and improve CMAV utilization
- Efforts to reduce the current 30.59-day RCC cycle time
Discussions also highlighted workforce development, ongoing diesel parts constraints, positive industry feedback regarding MMS and JAM, and opportunities for continued engagement with industry partners.

Jacksonville Shipyard Repair Association Monthly Luncheon
Captain Dan Reiher, Deputy Commodore CDS40/CTF 45 was the guest speaker for this month’s luncheon. Captain Reiher discussed the number of ships supporting operations in the Caribbean and Iran regions, noting that many were deployed on unscheduled tasking, with planned maintenance deferred. As long as a ship is capable of executing its mission, it is being sent forward.
The current priority is ensuring ships can get underway to support operational requirements, with maintenance not considered priority one at this time. This approach, however, is expected to create future challenges, as many ships will require significant maintenance once their missions are complete.
He also mentioned that ships operating in the Caribbean may return to Mayport for required repairs or maintenance (e.g., USS Iwo Jima), as this avoids the logistical complexity of performing work in the Caribbean region. These visits would be brief and focused solely on completing necessary work.

Surus Marine Visit, MMS Audit, and East Coast Engagements
Moody Marine Service hosted a business meeting and facility tour with Surus Marine, led by Chris Ragland, identifying potential opportunities in valves and actuators.
The team also participated in the MMS internal audit focused on business development, supporting both compliance and process improvement initiatives.
Customer follow-ups were conducted across the East Coast to close out Q1 actions and maintain strong momentum into Q2.
Attended Engagements included:
- Attendance at an April 9 retirement ceremony for an O-6 CAPT at the Washington Navy Yard (NAVSEA networking opportunity)
- A DESMI pump facility tour focused on centrifugal pump capabilities
